More advice about cat/kitten relationship and Holiday!

    Hiya,

    After a bit more advice!

Sam and Sookie have been getting on ok. They chase eachother, but also just lay near eachother doing nothing. And even will eat from the same bowl.

However today sam chased sookie and then pinned her and took a chunk out of her fur :( I can't see where it came from but he had a mouth ful.

Now i don't know what to do in this situation to help. I put sam in the kithen and told him off. But he ca be a nasty git sometimes. And Sookie leaves him alone most of the time. He just chases her then gets over excited.

Now i wouldn't be in a rush to sort them out. Except i go away on May 2nd for 4 nights. And my sis was going to come feed them for me. As the breeder said its better than a cattery. And now it's to late for a cattery so whaat do i do? I obv can't leave them alone unsupervised if he is going to bite her??

At the moment she has the bathroom wih her bed/tray etc. But i can't shut her in there for 4 days! And my flat isn't huge??

All i can thing is to have her in the living/dining room. Which is big. And let same have the rest of the house?

I was hoping they'd be compant for eachother when i went away :(

Eep! Is there any way you can send her to your sister's?

The 2nd of May is a bit away yet - maybe they'll work it out before then?

I'm sure some of the owners on her have much better advice!

I don't know if this helps or not, but my two are now the best of friends; they play together, groom each other, curl up near each other (although I've never seen them sleep curled up the way some mc's on here do -I.e. ON each other), chase each other. But they also wrestle a lot, and that can sometimes lead to hissing and what looks biting, which always worries me. But what stops me (usually) from breaking them up is watching to see if the one that looks like she's coming off worst is trying to get away. Sometimes Freyja will have had enough and disappear for a bit, but neither have ever looked threatened or frightened. I guess what I'm asking is whether Soukie looked like she was frightened or threatened - if she did them keeping them seperated could be the answer (assuming you can't get a cat sitter). If not, it could be your typical rough and tumble.

I would not leave them alone together if there appears to be any chance that the older male could hurt the younger female. Cats vary in how they take to other cats, and it sounds like Sam is being too aggressive for it to be safe to leave them completely unsupervised. I would have worried about leaving a kitten with our girl Bella for instance. On the other hand, when we got Zephyr as a playmate for Remy, Remy never ever threatened Zephyr in any way, and I quickly got over feeling I had to supervise their play. This despite Remy being just over one year, and huge compared to kitten Zephyr. Remy's personality is very different from Bella's; he is extremely sweet and laid back, while we is a dominant, alpha cat personality. Though she played with him as a kitten (due to his persistence), now that he outweighs her by 10lbs she is generally very aggressive with him, trying to assert her dominance (still successfully).

I agree a bathroom is too small for that period of time, but living/dining room sounds good for one. If they are forcibly separated and can smell each other under a door, it might even make Sam miss her companionship and treat her better (though it might not).

    Thanks for the replies.

I caught him grooming her today. They are fine except whe she runs he can't seem to resist the chase! But if they are seperated when they see eachother after they do loads of meowing and head rubbing.

I will probably have her in the living/dining room. As it is quite large. And him free reign in rest of flat. Then after the 4 days they'll be really missing eachother lol!

She can't stay at my sisters as she has a Ragdoll girl who would not impressed!

    xx
