I posted about this attempted theft on a Cat forum I belong to in the USA and someone replied that cats are sometimes stolen for their pelts.
    THE CAT FUR TRADE
That's just barbaric and to steal someones beloved pet for it's pelt is just horrendous.

What a horrific experience for you and Buddy! Glad he is safe, it beggars belief what lows some people will stoop to.

THANK YOU ALL for your messages and concern. Sorry for not replying sooner but I've been without internet up til now.

I should have put in the original post that I did call the Police immediately, who have been fantastic about it. An officer was here within 10 mins and didn't complain about getting ginger fur on his uniform. They do have a lead that they are following up and I am very hopeful. They also arranged local press and radio coverage as a warning to other pet owners to be vigilant. Unfortunately mine has not been their only call.

Buddy was absolutely fine, just a little bit shaken. As a precaution I did take him to the Vets and although he got the all clear, given what could have happened Buddy stayed there until this evening while some "upgrades" were made to pen and general home security. He is currently curled around my neck purring loudly.

The outdoor run is currently out of bounds, all doors and windows and now locked from the inside and even though I hate them all windows now have curtains and / or blinds on them and I don't care how much of my bed Buddy wants tonight, I will happily sleep on the floor.

I have been very lucky I know so please could you all just take 15 minutes to have a look around your own homes for security issues. Hugs to every cat on here (connie or otherwise) xx

It is horrible, it seems with the bad economy people will do anything to make money, in the Sacramento area of California where I live there's been a lot of theft of live copper wiring, schools, athletic fields and even traffic lights have had their wiring stolen.
There's is some justice in the world as one of these would be thieves got himself electrocuted.

Bad economy, crap. Immoral, selfish and greedy people who were never brought up to understand or respect others. Desperation does not allow for evil. I grew up in a single parent family where my mother worked multiple jobs and it was hard - which I only realise now that I am older and I haven't stooped to criminality. The solution is to license *human* breeding and have exams before people can whelp out another waste of oxygen. (Rant... now turned off).

I am happy to hear Buddy is OK and I hope mum has recovered her mojo. x

    Oh. My. God.
I feel sick! There are some nasty, horrible people out there!!!
My MC's are so so precious, if I caught anyone doing that (to me or any animal) I'm sure I couldn't be responsible for my actions!
And I'm so pleased you phoned the police... I think this is a lesson for a lot of people to up security. I'm so glad Buddy knew his way back, he must be very clever!
    xxx
