    Ive got a large stainless steel dog bowl, but I nearly went for a large ceramic dog bowl on the grounds that they are pretty heavy and tend to be quite flat.
    Only reason I went for the stainless steel one is that it was already in the house.

    Just a random thought.
    As a 'bodge it' job you could always get a section of marine plywood. Cut out a hole the size of the water bowl in it and place that on the floor with the bowl in the hole. Cats would be stood on the marine plywood so wouldnt be able to push the bowl along.
