    Hi there

Hiya...the intro forum seems to be unused at this board so I figured I would say hello here. My family has just recently got our first cat in a few years and we decided to go with the Maine Coon after doing some research around the place. I think I did a bit of reading on this board late last year which helped with the decision.

We got Mickey (try explaining to a 3 year old that Mickey is a MOUSE name!) home a week ago. He is settling in as well as we could have hoped to our busy household (3 year old and 1 year old twins). He is so gentle with the kids and not skittish at all. If he had been half as rough as our Burmese was back in the day the kids would look like extras in a zombie flick!

    Hi there-mickey1.4.14.jpg

I'll lurk about, pore over old threads and no doubt ask some questions as we navigate through our new cat experience.

    Cheers,
    Pieface

    *EDIT*
Oof! I see the intro forum properly now. I must have been logged out when I looked initially. Maybe a mod can move?

Hi & welcome to you & the handsome little Mickey, that is the name I chose for our very first dog when I was about 7 & he was a cross between a GSD & a husky so I think it is a brilliant name your three year old has picked.......
I did try to move you to intro but for some reason the post didn't want to oblige I will give it another go later but quite honestly I never found that part of the forum until I had posted quite a few times anyway so don't think it is a big worry.....xxx

Welcome, Mickey looks a lot like my Emerson which I got about 6 weeks ago. He's 4 years old, I rescued him from an animal shelter after my white shaded Persian had to be euthanized. What a find I knew nothing about Coon cats we just knew this cat was very friendly. He is the love of my wife's life real lovable and gentle even when introduced to my 12 week old German Shepherd pup.

Poor guy...all tuckered out after scaling every curtain he could lay his paws on!

That Emerson sounds like a handful from reading your threads Emerson!

my research suggests you need a cat tree about the size of the Eiffel Tower, but with more platforms!

I agree with that! When Ginger climbs up her tree fast I swear it is going to tip over and go through the window. I am thinking a shorter tree with a bigger platform on the bottom. I may end up securing this one to the walls with wires like a book shelf!
