We built a deck and pergola so that we could sit out with the cats - they used to have a single storey "run", but they wailed every time we sat out on the patio because they wanted to be with us. At that time, they were "mature" MCs - all over ten years old and far too grown-up to climb the mesh to the top, so we put bird-netting on the top of the pergola rafters, basically to discourage suicidal blue tits etc from coming in to pinch the loose cat fluff.
When Hobbes joined the family and then Alice, we checked the whole area over for kitten-sized escape routes and meshed in some more places.
In January, we had that massive amount of snow and it brought down the bird netting in places. Kevin was in hospital, so I did my best to make repairs; thought I'd done a pretty good job but hadn't counted on the "Hobbescapologist"!
Kevin was working from home that morning; around 10:30 I got a frantic phone call to come home. Hobbes had got up on top of the pergola, made his way on to the roof of the shed and was swearing at the pigeons! It took the two of us and two slices of Spam to get him back in. Our heart-rates returned to normal - eventually!!!
We have now put galvanised mesh right over the top and although Hobbes has clambered up the "walls", he cannot get any further.

I was coming back home across the fields yesterday with the dogs and saw Simba sitting on our back fence, when he saw us he was eager to come and meet us and jumped down into a patch of stinging nettles. He stung one of his little pink pads and was licking it all day. Don't think he will do that again poor thing.

Awwwww, poor baby!
I remember reading somewhere that a MC in the USA marched from his home to the neighbour's house where his owners were at a party, walked into the house and gave them "what for" for being out late and insisted they return home. Hobbes has got quite an imperious little "WOW" when we aren't complying quickly enough, so I can well believe this!
Hobbes would do just about ANYTHING for Spam. And if you ever need to give a pill, like a worming tablet for example, ours will (usually) take it if it is rolled up in a bit of corned beef! So much for the balanced Science Diet, eh?

That's so funny
Simba hates being left alone when I take the dogs out. If no-one is at home with him I lock him in the house cos I know he would try and follow us.
Simba is a huge cheese fan and will try and take it out of your sandwich if you are eating it
Haven't tried spam but thinking I will have to get some if it's so popular

We can believe that! Hobbes can reach up to the kitchen counter when standing on his back legs and has been known to snaffle stuff that is close to the edge.
The spam is an occasional treat - not sure how much salt there is in that stuff! He also adores cheese.
I had a Burmese that would KILL for chinese food and curry. And our original red boy Widget had a thing for sweet-and-sour chicken - thereby hangs a tale.
He had been on chicken-and-rice as he had had an upset tum. The previous evening we had had a takeaway and put the leftovers in a bin bag in the garage. We went out the next evening to friends and when we got back, my husband picked Widget up and planted a big kiss on his furry little head. He recoiled, exclaiming "Yuk! Sweet and Sour Cat!"
Our "I've got a sensitive tummy" red lad had raided the bin bag and his fur colour had neatly masked the sauce that he had covered himself in!
