    Outdoor /Indoor

I am getting new kittens in April who will be indoor cats - with an outside cat run - but my moggie had full access to the outside via a cat flap - I am sticking on the point of how to stop the kitties from using the cat flap as my moggie is 16 i dont really want to have to trat locking it on her as she is going to have enough change to deal with.....any suggestions or has anyone else been through this.

There are cat flaps that interact with the microchip... so if you microchip your moggy you can program the flap so that it will only work for her.

I didn't know such a thing existed, but on thinking about it, I'm not surprised. But I can just imagine a cat staring at a flap wondering why it won't work when he tries it whilst another cat freely comes and goes through it!

Yep,people find they work really well, will just be fun though when the new babes get some size & weight behind them & one decides to charge the flap, could end up like my daughters big black Ozzy, wearing it as a collar....

The problem with all the catflaps I know of, microchip or collar keyed, is that the permissioned opening only works in one direction. You cannot stop all but one cat going out - but someone must have thought of this problem before.

You could build an "airlock" if you have a utility room or something, with two catflaps, both opening freely from the airlock but only allowing chosen moggie into the airlock from either side. Expensive though.
