    What pet insurance?

Hiya, I am really excited about the prospect of getting another kitten! We went to see the breeder on Monday and the boy we have chosen is the cutest, cuddliest baby!! Not sure I should divulge who the breeder is, but she is a member of this site!

Anyway I was wondering about pet insurance? With Jasper (our first kitten) we got some free with pet plan and chose to continue pet plan as it was an easy option. However I've just looked at what we are paying and it is stupidly high (I think), so I was wondering what anyone else is paying and what you get for it? More to the point, what do I need to cover?! I'll have 2 kittens and the chances are we'll end up getting more so what insurer is best for multiple cat households?

    Basically, can anyone help?!

Best wishes and a belated happy new year!

    Chak

If I can give you a little advise, when I insured our two I never checked if the policy included dental work.........of course it does not so I will be changing insurers this year.

    What pet insurance

There didn't used to be any companies that would cover for dental work so would be interested to know if there is anyone out there now, anything classed as routine is not normally covered, dentals, neutering, vaccinations{although there is one company that gives a voucher towards vaccs if insured with them}.I think pet insurance is like house & contents, you have to do plenty of bedtime reading & go for the one that feels comfortable for you & your pocket. There is only one company that in all the 30+ years I have worked in the veterinary world I would say don't touch but it is not one of the best known ones & as obviously I can't post it on here fingers crossed none of you find it.
We have only insured for the first year, two in the case of the the last two "mad babes"as I was sure one of them would end up with a broken leg, luckily not,but with the then six could never have afforded to keep insurance going for all, so every month put money into a "cat account".Over time it has mounted up pretty high so it sits there in case, never touch it for the routine things or quick once off visit, hope it is never needed,but.....
Congratulations Chak, lots of pictures please, might even be able to pick the breeder out then !

We've just got our two insured by tesco- think it was around £10 for both cats on the higher level if cover. I didn't get accident cover since they don't go outside but actually, Dudley is an accident waiting to happen so maybe I should add it in for him. He managed to close a kitchen drawer on his paw tonight while trying to get my baked beans. He made the most awful shrieking noise. Luckily there's no lasting damage!!!

I don't think many companies cover for dentals..not sure why, they just don't
I have always covered with Sainsbury's at around £13/14 for boys..girls around £10/12
They have always paid out so far and I think there long term cover is pretty good

Hi there, wow so you've picked out a new kitten, lucky you, how exciting!

I insured my 2 with PetPlan. I did some research and asked my vet's chief nurse for advice, and she recommended 2 companies, PetPlan being one of them (can't remember the other). She said it was good cover and they were quick and efficient when it comes to paying out. It also turned out that I got the best quote from PetPlan - £13/month per kitten. PetPlan will cover for hereditary illnesses, should one come to light, which the other companies I contacted would not.

Very curious who your breeder is - don't think it's the same as mine, as I'm pretty sure she's not on this forum...but I could be wrong!!

Thanks for the advice guys, I'll do some shopping around. I went on GoCompare but it doesn't have the insurers you have mentioned, so tomorrow i'll call a few people. I have heard good things about petplan, so i'll be grilling the other companies a little. I'll post what I find out if anyone is interested?

As for the kitten we visited, he's gorgeous! I do want to tell you, but I'm also wondering if any of you can guess?! He's a popular colour with you folk on here and he's similar (but not identical) to his dad. Maybe with a bit of sleuthing, someone can work it out!!!

So excited now! I cant thank his breeder enough, she has been great with everything and I would highly recommend her to anyone. Thank you!

    Maybe I should just say....!!!

We used to be with Petplan but now we use Saga as they appear to be a lot cheaper and give us the same cover.

We took on the pet for life plan from PetPlan and all i can say is that im glad we did, we've been to the vets a lot with Schrödinger's regarding his runny poopoo'laroo and he's currently going through his second round of fecal tests, i reckon with past tests, consultations, bloods, , etc its totalled up over £400 so im VERY glad we had cover.
