We've had two cat fountains, pretty much from day one, and I don't get any trouble with water play, despite the fact that both mine are fascinated with water - seems to be limited to watching though. Having said that, last summer Freyja quite liked flicking water from the Drinkwell Platinum's tap, all over the kitchen floor. And Wicca seems to like to dunk her stupidly bushy tail in the reservoir. Freyja loves to get up on the kitchen sink if the tap is running and if she's not let into the bathroom when the shower's on she'll wake the whole of Reigate (at 4.30 in the morning!).

Bassie used to do that until she got her water fountain. Now she just drinks nicely out of the running stream part of her fountain (and so does everyone else). Hope that helps.

Thanks everyone, all really useful suggestions!
For the moment I've just moved the water bowl to a separate mat and (fingers crossed) he appears to have stopped splashing... :D

Well...glad to finally get back here and read that this is a problem with everyone else's Maine Coons and not just my Spartacus. He is obsessed with water and I have to keep bath towels handy in the kitchen because he dumps his entire water bowl constantly.
