Thread: Sicky/Poop-y Problem?

Thanks again for all the advice guys!

It's not an issue with worming - he was wormed when he got his second lot of vaccinations.

We think it is a problem with how quickly he eats - I've spoken to the breeder and she says that's what she thinks it is (she knows how greedy he is!) so she's suggested we feed him in small amounts at meal times so that he doesn't just gobble everything up at once. We've been giving him poached chicken for alternate meals as that takes him much longer to chew. We've not had any more sick and poos are completely normal again in both smell and...erm... consistency. (Sorry!)

Does anyone have any other suggestions regarding how to slow down how he eats?

I don't try to slow any of mine down with the wet food but because of Merlyns weight problem he is rationed on his dry even more than the others so would pig it when it was given & then have indigestion,very often thought he would throw it back but being a big boy now it seems as if he could "hold onto it" but with him I either spread it around over a large area so he has to work his way around to get it or put it into the playball & make him work for it that way,no more undignified sounds coming from him,used to luv how he looked at you though as if to say sorry,did that noise come from me....x

STACY I have been trying to pm you but keeps being rejected. I did message Admin as soon as I found out. Due to extreme circumstances, that still make me cry and got a funeral to get through yet, I had to get my ex round to help with my lad on Sunday. He took it upon himself to pic up my pc and pose as me. This got so bad that as some other respected members on here know that I had to take my facebook down. Please read all my previous posts where I really was concerned about your Teddy and that one grrr. It honestly wasn't me, I would NEVER say such a thing.

I really hope that Teddy is feeling better.

If a cat is vomiting you have to identify the reason and tins of food on a delicate stomache will be too heavy.
Again, remove dry food feed small amounts of boiled chicken or white fish often. Hand feed if needed to ensure slow eating. If poops are still sloppy add a little rice as it binds.
You will need to reintroduce tinned food slowly and one make/flavour at a time x

NCarver - thanks for the advice, it's reassuring to know that it's not completely uncommon. We are avoiding giving him wet and dry food at the same time now - we're only giving him dry food when he's having the chicken as we give him smaller quantities of that and he takes his time over it.

catslave - I appreciate your concern and I have read everyone's replies carefully and appreciate them all. I have also spoken to his breeder who I feel knows him best and was able to advise me best on what to do with him. We did feed just chicken and dry food for two days and found that he was okay. His poop has gone back to how it was before last week when he was first ill and had smelly poo. From this and the advice some people on here have given we've realised that the problem most likely lies in the fact he's bulking himself up as his wet food expands his dry and then running around like a crazy which doesn't help! He has only been sick three times and each time it's been just his last meal or two thrown back up. He's been eating what we've given him and he's been behaving totally normally.

What I don't appreciate is you accusing me of doing nothing. If I wasn't bothered by it, I wouldn't be posting on this forum about it. If we did what each individual person on here suggested, we'd be trying far too many different things! As you can see from the previous posts I've made, we have tried some of the things suggested (such as the boiled chicken you suggested in your initial response) and in particular we have listened to his breeder regarding what we should do. I am quite upset by your accusation, actually. I know you say you weren't trying to be harsh and uncaring but I don't think that really came across in your post. Now, I apologise if I'm being harsh here as this has almost always been a friendly and welcoming forum so I do not want to cause any friction but the forum could do without people accusing owners of not caring for their pets properly. I'm sorry if that's not what you meant but that's just the way I've interpreted it.
