It is a Maine Coon trait, and sometimes giving them moving water, as in a drinking fountain, helps, but still some of my cats dib their paws in it. I have dishes in trays, but, the tray gets full of water, I just have to keep a mop handy. Love 'em ;-))

Both of mine are water fanatics! Poif isn't quite so keen, but she begs me to put on our catit fountain and will just stare at it...if left long enough though you can return to a room flooded with water where she has decided to attack the water. Ffion is the worst though and will be found either in the bath or the kitchen sink calling loudly for the taps to be turned on...day and night!!

I have the same with my babies, seems to come hand in hand with these fab felines . Although like you I wouldn't change them for the world.
I also had the same problem with my litter tray, I find they just seem to big for even the largest of trays on the market, so to remedy my problem I did go a little extreme and purchased a large indoor guinea pig cage (quite costly at £80) and removed the cage and used the base as a litter tray.... It worked and I now have 2.
Does seem crazy I know but it definitely worked for me and I have never had a mis-hap since.
Good luck to you and Rory
