Thread: What’s your favourite type/colour of Maine Coon and why?

Hiya thanks for the reply, yeah I’m hoping my coons tails will fluff out more when their older. They've not got the best of tails at the moment? But that’s them about 15 months old so they’ve got a few more years growth in them?

can I ask you what was the weight of your coons at 12 months old. I'm wondering because I’m trying to estimate my cats weight when they get older.

Dakota (we call him 'kota or Duke) is now 20 lbs/9kg and is 5.5 yrs old. He seems to be maturing more this year and filling out more. He dad, Zunicoon Hulk, is over 25 lbs/11.4kg. I love silvers and torties and probably most of all silver shadeds. However, my heart always melts for a tabby, not sure why, maybe it's because my first ever cat as a child was a tabby moggie. Also I absolutely adore the tabby markings on the face, especially the "spectacles" around the eyes!

I think that solid blues, blacks and smokes can look really impressive though, just like a wild cat.

The truth be told though, it's the individual cats personality that I fall for and so I guess I love all colours!

I love the personality and that makes the colour irrelevant every Maine Coon I have is my favourite colour and they are all different lol Attachment 0

Maine Coons were almost non existent for sale (at least to my knowledge) here in Singapore (not even in petshops, no breeders; registered or back yard breeders) back in the late 80s and early 90s.

When I discovered my Rocco (brown tabby) from a registered MC breeder who owns a petshop (this breeder only owns 1 stud MC), I bought him without hesitation due to the limited availability of MC in Singapore. Until to date, there are only 2 registered MC breeders in Singapore....so, the choice of colors are very limited.

When I bought Merlin and Dyman from Poland, it was mainly because the breeder is willing to send them to Singapore, so I did not have a whole long list of breeders to choose from. It was either the breeders are not willing to send their kittens from Europe to Asia OR they are willing, only if 2 kittens are purchased at once for the price of EURO 5000 (this was 2 years ago EURO exchange rate was at it's highest peak, excluding airfreight and quarantine charges). If none of the above was an issue, my dream color would definitely be a Blue Smoke (preferably with Mackeral masking), a Solid Blue and finally a Black Smoke.

I did come across a Solid Blue male kitten at a petshop (claims to be imported from Perth, Australia but without papers/pedigree) in August 2010 for the price of SGD $3200 (around EURO 1950).
Buying a pet MC kitten (neutered) from a local registered breeder is between SGD $2000 - $2500.

You guys in Europe and USA are so very lucky when it comes to choices of breeders and colors.
