Maine Coon odd behavior - need advice purrrlllease!!!
Sometimes, at night, when my silver Maine Coon (Gordon) gets sleepy, he does this weird thing where it looks and sounds like he's chewing an invisible piece of food...I know it sounds really strange, but I was a little concerned because I didn't know if he had something stuck in his throat, or similar bad thing. He doesn't look like he's in distress, but I've never seen him do this before, and he'll do it for like 10 minutes straight. I took a short video of it and posted it on youtube (I'm so sorry for the watermark that is on the video, but I had to download a free video editor to be able to make the movie!). If anyone of you would please take a look, and listen, and tell me if you've ever seen a cat do this, it would be great reassurance for me. He is 3 years old. Thank you so very much.
John

Did you ever find out what this "chewing" is all about? Does he still do this? Hope all is well.

Might sound stupid but looking at his face he just appears to me as if he is going into semi dreamland & his baby suckling reflex is kicking in. I have one who loves to rub the side of her head against carrier bags & at the same time she makes that type of chomping noise, never at any other time or even if she is rubbing against her toys, only the carrier bag & to be more exact it's the handles.....
If Gordon is happy eats ok etc I wouldn't worry, put it down to another one of the many strange traits our furries have.....x
