From my understanding, I could be wrong, the breeder registers the litter, then I think they can either register the individual kittens, prepay the registration fee, or just give the new owner the registration and let them pay for it.

We are going to get 2 kittens, I think my place is large enough to accommodate 2 grown Maine Coons, more than 2 and I don't think it would be fair to them. I'm hoping to start looking for them in about 3 months, after things have settled down.

So pleased you are having two together you won't regret it,we went up in ones until we reached four & when we went for the fith ended up having having a pair & it was great fun watching them & what one didn't think of the other one did plus one would do something naughty & just like a child would sit there all innocent blaming the other I am so pleased that we had that chance,I would never have wanted a big two legged family but I feel honoured to have had the luv & companionship of the furries so much so that when we lost one five just didn't seem right so had to have another babe but that is it..... Will look forward to seeing them....

Welcome brims. I found this site most helpful when we were looking for a purebred MC. Here in the States, I've found that every breeder is different on their registration requirements. We too were just looking for an adorable purebred MC to add as a member of our family. We did not have and still don't have any intentions of showing or breeding our guy (he's fixed now so breeding is out of the question). Some breeders registered the kittens prior to going to their forever home. Other breeders required you to neuter before giving you the registration papers. Our breeder gave us the papers to register but marked the papers so we couldn't use our guy for breeding. Against my DH's wishes, I did register our guy and have not found any advantages or disadvantages of doing so. I just wanted to have a certificate to put in with his paperwork and also have the bragging rights to say we have a registered purebred MC. We registered Whiskey with the CFA and 8 months ago it cost $12 for the basic registration.

Thank you for the information about registration, for the nominal amount of money that it requires, I'll more than likely just do it since they will be purebreds.

My fiancee and I will be at work all day so 1 kitten will get bored, so I recommended to her that we get 2 so they can have something to do while we're gone and so we can watch their antics, 2 kittens definately have more fun together than 1.
