Mine does that and unfortuently she now gets locked out of the bedroom at night. I came to that decision when she spent one whole hour non stop kneading the duvet right by my face. Im not sure why they do it but I think its across the whole cat spectrum and not just maines.

A lot of cats do it, it's quite common. Apparently they are trying to replicate feeding from their mothers - the padding of the paws stimulates the mum's milk. All in all, the sign of a very contented puss

Most cats do it and it is exactly what Rachel-C says, it is behavoiur from when they are babies trying to get milk from their mom. And it does mean a happy cat! I have heard of some cats who knead on your stomach with claws so I don't mind Roark kneading the blanket!

I used to have a cat 'Indie' and he used to suck my hair, ears and clothing, kneading and purring at the same time. Some people think that cats that do this were taken away from their mothers too early but my MC boy 'Mist' has an obsession with my Mongolian fur cushions and loves to suck and knead them and he was with his mother longer than most kittens. I agree with Rachel-C and I also think its a sign of a contented. Can understand might be a little annoying in the middle of the night but I think it's quite sweet otherwise.

You too! what is it about these mongolian cushions. I have around 10 in the house & they generally have a cat stuck to them.
