i asked my vet yesterday on neutering ronnie she told me 6mnths? so how do breeders get theres sorted well before then? do i have the right to tell my vet i want it done sooner than 6mnths? he is 9weeks at the moment and the vet only felt one testical so she also wants to see if the other one drops could tis be the reason for the 6mnths?

You have the right to tell your vet your thoughts. They have the right to refuse treatment. If you want a vet to do it sooner then you need to find another vet but I don't think that will be easy to find for an erstwhile Tom with only one testicle descended.

There is quite a difference between 9 and 26 weeks. I'm not familiar with you on here but, that being the case, I am not even sure why you are in possession of a kitten at 9 weeks old that you want to neuter against veterinary advice.

I hope someone will come along shortly and clarify for me because currently I am quite alarmed.

im not saying neuter right now but id like to know how breeders can sell there MC kittens at 13 weeks already neutered/spayed,

i dont mind waiting till 6mnths its just a tad confusing when your reading that most MC are neutered for you when you buy and then the vet tells you 6mnths

i brought my kitten home on sunday im new to this site

Can understand caternity leave being worried as to why you have a babe that young,a MC from a reputable breeder should be 12 to 13 weeks & already vaccinated. Because unfortunately a lot of breeders are being let down by people not having their pets neutered as their agreement/contract states they are having their kittens done before leaving them, there are vets that will do it,I think its a shame as it is a lot for the babe to go through either one of the two things on their own is enough for them to take, vaccinations is one thing but then a GA on top is really knocking them but can understand the reasoning behind & it does stop people taking advantage.
There are other threads on here re age of neutering, six months is a good starting point & if testicle is still undescended by then chances are it won't come down & can be removed at same time of castration, did the "breeder" inform you there was only one testicle present when you bought babe as that op could you considerably more to be done....

I am very surprised that you have been able to take the kitten home before he has had any vaccinations, and clearly not even a veterinary check which would have identified the testicle issue, and regardless of whether this is the breeder's first litter or not, its a little irresponsible to say the least. Here are the guidelines from the GCCF website for registered breeders:

The GCCF strongly recommends that no kitten should be permitted to go to a new home before 13 weeks of age. A least seven days prior to this the kitten should have completed a full course of vaccinations, including a health check, given by a Veterinary Surgeon or by a listed Veterinary nurse given under the direction of a Veterinary Surgeon. The breeder should ensure that the kittens are house trained, inoculated and in good general health.

Whatever the circumstances of your purchase, you now have your kitten and clearly want to give it a secure and loving home.

You will receive different answers to the neutering question from different breeders. My advice to owners of my kittens is to wait until they are at least 6 months old, and up to 9 months providing the litter tray isn't pungent. Once the odour changes, its a trip for the snip. A number of breeders neuter their kittens before they leave for their new home, neither is wrong or right.

I got my Max at 13 weeks after his second vaccination and had him neutered at 6 months. It was an easy operation for him - he went to the vet in the morning, home in the afternoon and behaved as if nothing had happened. I know there are many pros and cons that others have posted in response to similar queries - check back previous postings and you'll find them.

My concern was that I had my little spayed Sophie already and I did not want him to either get rough with her or start spraying in the house - both of which can happen when a boy hits 'cat puberty'.

Some people have gone much longer than 6 months with no such signs, others report behaviour changes before 6 months - it seems to depend upon the individual. My advice would be to take guidance from your vet. Hope all goes well!

After neutering Minos his behaviour didn't change. From 8 to 20 hours he is outside playing like a fool.He collects mouses, birds and doesn't like the other male cats from the neighbours. And he is very slender and muscular (like me of course

My two new babies had their first jabs at 9 weeks plus a vet check and testicle check. Second jabs will be next week at 12 weeks. We collect them the week after at 13 weeks. All my older boys have been neutered at 8 months, this was recommended by our first breeder and caused no problems whatsoever for any of our boys. My personal feeling is that neutering at 13 weeks is too young although I do appreciate why some breeders are doing it. One of my boys was 6 months old when we got him and he did have a 'rogue' testicle. He had gone as a stud cat with both testicles down. The new owner took him to her vets for a check and there was only one. He went back to the breeder who took him to her vets and there were two down again. When Ally reached 8 months I took him to be checked and explained to my vets what had been happening. Both were down but my vet did explain that it could go back up again and sure enough on the day of his op they were only just able to get hold of it as it was on it's way up again. Apparently when the testicles desend the hole they desend through then closes up so they stay down. In Ally's case it didn't close so hence the yoyo effect. Just be aware that if it isn't down when they come to do the op and they can't get hold of it then it is a much bigger operation and alot more expensive. The testicle has to be removed as cats with a retained testicle are at a higher risk of developing cancer.
