Thread: Number of litter boxes

I don't know about the number of trays (as you know I only have the one pirate) but wanted to say congratulations on the addition to your fluffy family! :-)

Oh my word she is beautiful & is looking a very happy relaxed girl already,no wonder you are so pleased to have got her.....
We have six cats & get away with five trays but don't use normal cat trays I buy the under bed storage boxes that are actually a lot longer {also cheaper than cat trays & easier to clean & you can buy the exact size that suits you....} even with only one cat I had two trays as a lot of them like to wee in one & poo in another I have two like that.. quite honestly I would make sure you do have at least the two about to avoid any future problems.....x

i have three cats, and have only one litter box in my home. It works perfectly. I have to clean the litter three - four times a day but it isn't a problem. I had two litter boxes one year ago, but i don't see difference. In my opinion, only one is enought.

That's all very well Berike if your home a lot, but I would say 2 trays if your not going to be able to clean them out a lot. I foster 2 cats at a time (although I have some how got 3 at the moment, go figure lol!) and have had 2 trays and they get cleaned out once a day (as I work all day) and that has always worked with no problems of them going elsewhere in the house. I am upto 3 at the moment as I have 3 cats and again have had no problems and it honestly doesn't take long to clean and re litter them, I use litter wipes which makes cleaning them a doddle Jckerrison do you possibly have a link to these under bed storage boxes as I may consider them for when I get my 2 MC's as I am not sure what litter trays to get at the mo and would like ones that are big enough when there fully grown. Thanks.

I agree with Jackie, the underbed storage boxes work great for MCs My Buster would walk in dig a hole and pee out side of the box, once I got the longer underbed storage box that stopped. I guess long cats need long litter boxes. I always had 2 boxes when I had my 2 cats. Ginger, uses the toilet, so no box here Now that the OH had his hip replaced it may be a fight to see who uses the bathroom first, him or Ginger.

Well we do have a loo in the basement we do not use it too often, the spiders like it too much! hahaha maybe I can train Ginger to use it? She loves to sneak down there and then stand at the door and cry her heart out!

Sorry no good at doing links but googled & yep ours do come up,we just get them from a cheap outlet shop but if you google Crystal plastic storage boxes, the 50ltr one is what we have got four of at the moment,the fith one is same depth but longer as that fitted in the outside pen better but at Wilco's I think the 50litre one is priced at £7 so that gives you an idea of what you can get them for.....x

I have three permanent and large trays and 10 cats, and they also have a pea gravel facility on the patio which can be washed and scooped. The trays are cleaned regularly, scooped at least 2/3 times each day, and we rarely have any problems. I do put out more trays when we have babies, I think the record number this year was 9 in total of varying sizes, but thank goodness it wasn't for long.
