oh poor little Sid! no fun being a kitty!
the catflap idea seems good to me for a start - but it might not resolve things, if his issue is separation anxiety. It won't make you any less gone, I mean, just that he'll be able to come into the house and see for himself that you're not there. But may be it's not separation anxiety but simply "let-me-in'ness"? (what? it's a word...) he's used to having the door open eventually by praying loudly to it for a while. Sometimes it takes longer for the God-of-the-Door to answer, may be, so you have to pray longer?
I know what you mean about HOs being spoilsports and not answering positively to our cluckiness. I also want another baby-cat, and he's being stubborn, using logic as a weapon.
