Wow… that's quite some challenge you have on your hands. Our garden is tiny, but we also encountered some of the same problems you mention.

We started out using the eyelets too, but soon switched to tie-wraps. This pic also shows how we catproofed the conifer with an anti-climbing sleeve made of plastic.


And tunnelling...? You have some pretty smart kitties!
