    Don't worry

Don't worry it's natural some cat(she) sometime eat lesser than other Cats(he),it's not about eating lesser or he/she(cats).if your pet is healthy and active,do participate in physical activities then there is nothing to worry.

I was just wondering about this this morning when I was feeding Schrodinger.

Yesterday I weighed how much dry food we put down as I'd noticed that he's started to eat the dry food more (he usually ignored it to be honest) and a bowl full is approx 100g.

His feeding plan is as follows:

In the morning he gets just over a 1/3 of a tin (410g tin) of Bozita and the same again at tea time (just as were getting our food) and we leave the dry out so he can graize. The dry food were using is the Porta 21 Feline Finest Sensible.

Now when we woke up this morning he'd eaten nearly all the dry food aswell, so in total he's eaten (approx.) 4/5th of a tin of Bozita and nearly 100g of dry.

I know Maine Coons eat you out of house and home but is this normal? To be honest i'm quite shocked at how much he's packing away, i weighed him yesterday aswell and he's gained about 100 grams (2.9kg's) in about a week since his vet visit and i'm not sure if its just me but he does seem longer since we got him.

Anyhoo, my question here is, is this normal and to be expected, if not should we remove his dry food bowl during the day to stop him from hoovering everything up or maybe put less dry food down?

That is a huge amount of dry food for him to be having -at his age I wouldn't think he even needs half of that. Look at the side of the packet for the recommended portions that he should be having for his age and weight. For example, my youngesters get something like 35g per day of biscuits along with some bozita and wild minced rabbit.

Don't forget you are giving him bozita too so you need to give him less dry than if he was on a dry only diet.

Dry food is quite addictive for cats so most of the time if it is there they will eat it, regardless of whether they are hungry or not!

I think because its there he's just gourging himself on it.. ok, tonight he's starting on a more regimented diet and we'll see how we get on.

Haha! Just watch out he doesn't start belching from the other end, like Larry. Ewwww! He can clear the room in seconds. Sometimes you can actually hear it!!!

Schrodingers the same... its akin to a nuclear shockwave.. im sure i've seen his pantaloons shake.. this is normally followed by a loud "EEEEEEEeeew Schrodo!!!!" to which he'll look up non plussed... and normally meow for more food (he eats alarmingly fast).

    Maine coon kittens eat little?

    Hello
My name is Cristina and I live in Portugal.

I ‘m the happy owner of a kitten red tabby blotched Maine for 13 weeks and would and I take some doubts with you.

I think my kitten, name "RUCA" eats very little and I do not know if this is normal or not.

He eats dry food (kitten RC 36) and RC Kitten instinctintive.

Right now he weighs 2.400 kg. It’s a normal weight for a 13 weeks kitten ?

He plays a lot with my other cat, so he is not sick.
Also already took him to the vet who says he is in good health but I ´m worry.

Thank you in advance for your help

2.4kg is a very good weight for 13 weeks. My 3 kittens were all around 1.8kg at 12 1/2 weeks when they came to live with me. Check the weight comparison chart thread for others.

Do you leave dry food down all the time or is that a problem with also having an older cat too ? I can do that because all mine are the same age and all need to eat all the time

Good luck, and listen to the vet. Only worry if he starts loosing energy and gets too tired to play!
