We have had kittens go through phases where they would eat too much dry and then throw some up. Once the dry gets in their stomachs, and obviously especially if they drink water, it expands as it absorbs moisture, and if they ate until they were stuffed, then this can turn out to be too much for their stomachs. I recall both of our boys doing this at certain times. They are particularly likely to throw up if they move around too much after they overeat. We used to find piles of food at the bottom of the stairs, for example. So, I would not worry about this if he looks fine and it doesn't happen too often.
