Cronavirus FIP - how do you decontaminate a house / do you need to

I can't say for sure that my home was exposed to the above but we had a Maine Coon from Suzanne Zech who had a couple of bouts of high temperature that were treated by antibiotics, then the last time he got hot he vanished before we could get him to the vet. He may have sadly gone off and died. I suspect he may have had cronavirus/FIP because of where he came from. If this was the case do I need to disinfect my house before introducing a new cat? How long should I wait? How would I go about it? Any help appreciated

Feline coronavirus (FoCV) is a virus that causes mild symptoms in most cats. Rarely, feline coronavirus can lead to feline infectious peritonitis is almost always fatal. The virus works by infecting the white blood cells. However, the vast majority of cats that contract feline coronavirus do not develop FIP.

My first Maincoon kitten died of FIP! It was devastating, and quite frankly still is! I consulted 3 Vets over this illness, and I was advised to wait anywhere from 6 weeks to 3 months before bringing another kitten home! I threw out everything cat in my house!!!! I know I went overboard, but could not put myself or another kitten threw hell! I waited 6 weeks, but wished I had waited longer, as it always haunted me, especially, 1.5 years down the road with my new kitten developed an unexplained high fever!!The Vet said "he had FIP what else could it be"!!!! I refused that diagnoses, and a long story short he did not have FIP, as he is still living, and recovered 100%. He had complications from a hairball! So that said I would wait 3 months!! I never want to go down that road again...it's nasty! RIP...you were taken too soon!
