The summer is going to be hot, trimming or not?

    Hello all,

The summer is fast approaching and I am a bit worried about Marquis...
Last year he developed F.U.T and the vet in part blamed the high temperatures(around 40 degrees Celsius) for it.

I live in Tokyo, Japan and to prevent it from happening again, I had planned to leave the air conditioner on while I'm at work, but due to the resent big earthquake, we have to save on electricity or risk rolling blackouts...

I was therefore wondering if I could trim him?..is this a solution or do you have any other ideas to make him a bit more comfortable during summer?

    Many regards

    Brian, Tokyo

Our cats definitely adapt partially to the summer temps. I know that when it first hit 80f here, our girl Bella that goes outside with me most days ended up panting while outside, but later in the summer this will not happen even when it is 90f. They definitely lose a good deal of their winter coats. Still we run air conditioning all summer long here since it is extremely humid along with being 90f.

I would try some approaches for increasing your guy's water intake. Do you have a pet fountain? Canned food is also 80% water, so if you are feeding dry or mainly dry you can increase canned intake.

Not sure about you trimming him, but it can be possible to get MCs groomed. I recall someone on the forum having this done fairly recently and being very pleased.

    Lion Cut!!!

Seriously, though, both the MCs I had when I lived in Las Vegas were fine thru the summer if not too active...

    Indoors, of course.

I doubt if it will get that hot in Tokyo... Even with minimal AC.

Prayers sent for a speedy recovery from the disasters...
