Best insurance policies - UK based

    Hi all

Our wonderful MC, Neo, is now nearly 7 months old and is HUGE

Best insurance policies - UK based-1.1.14-2-.jpg This is him at about 8 weeks

Best insurance policies - UK based-apr-14.jpg This is him at about 6 months - look how big!

Anyway, he's now been neutered and chipped, so I'm looking for some insurance for him (it just seemed easier to wait til he was 'done' and chipped, as all the quotes I got made a specific point of asking about both).

I've tried a couple of insurance comparison websites and I've also contacted a couple of insurers direct, but there are just so many types of insurance and so many levels of cover that it all seems a bit of a minefield and I'm a bit scared about plumping for a policy!

I definitely want a "lifetime" or "maximum benefit" policy, and not a time limited policy. I also think I'd like to go for somewhere around the £7k/£10k annual limit.

So far, all the quotes I've had have been very expensive!

I've done some googling, and found a couple of review sites, and it seems that John Lewis is one of the best for customer services.....but, of course, they're one of the most expensive.

So, I thought I'd ask you clever people which insurers you recommend!

Of course, we'll pay out whatever we need to get the best and most reliable cover for our special boy, but I want to make sure it's not money down the drain (as I know some policies aren't really worth the paper they're written on!)

    Many thanks in advance

    Tracey

    Hi there,

I have gone for Petplan for my 2 MC boys and I have insured them since I have had them at 12 weeks and they had no problems with this even though they weren't neutered only chipped. I pay £37 a month for my 2 so your looking at probably £25 odd for just your boy as there is a discount when you do more than one kitty. I went for the 7k policy I belive and that covers medical, theft etc. Also I have heard very good things about how easy it is to use Petplan when you do actually have to claim, it all goest through the vets and it is pretty painless to do.

Just as a side not how much does your boy way now as my 2 boys at just coming up to 6 months old and are already over 4kg lol. I am going to post up some pics now in my thread if you fancy a look, oh and Neo is indeed a big hansome boy hehe

Hi there, many thanks for your reply. Petplan are my insurers of choice, to be honest. I used to have my horses insured with them, and they were great, always paid up without quibble. Also, I run a small pet hotel (Home Page) and we have a Petplan 'sanctuary' (corporate) policy covering that. Again, whenever we've had to make a claim against the policy, Petplan have always been superb.

I'll pop over to their website now and see what the quote is.

At last weigh-in, Neo weighed 10lb I think, which is just over 4.5kg. He's a proper chunky monkey, though, eats like a horse and doesn't move himself much, so I think we might be enrolling in kitty weight watchers soon!

I'll definitely have a look at your pics now

    Thanks again

    Tracey

I found the best one was Direct Line - now I'm with Tesco because.... Direct Line was our last baby's insurance and it leaves a bitter taste....

Sid is with Vetsure which is linked to the vet's practice. You can opt yo have a bundle of vouchers towards neutering, jabs etc. haven't tested it yet, though.
Our Moggy was with Petplan and they certainly coughed up easily, we must have received back well over £1000 for fights and his last illness, and they would have paid for most of a radioactive iodine thyroid treatment if his kidneys hadn't failed suddenly - the bill for the thyroid would have been over £1k.
