Overly Vocal Coon
About 2months ago I rescued a pair of brothers (litter mates) from the local city pound. They are Maine Coon/Persian and are generally a joy to have in our family.
They are 4years old, neutered but the one just can't stop talking! He gets tons of attention when we're home but he never sticks around to enjoy it and can't seem to sit down. He even wakes us up in the middle of the night with his voice echoing in our home.
He has always seemed to have ADD and seems to see things on the wall and run around. I'm at a loss of what to do, it's really starting to frustrate me, I do not want to give the cats up nor would I consider splitting them but I will admit I have thought about it.
Has anyone had the same issue, any suggestions?

Hmmm, at night do you have them shut out of your room or are they free to roam about the place? If I shut Jones out of a room he will generally have a moan and a cry about it.
Is his running around constant or does he only do it at certain times of the day? My MC will go mental for a few minutes in the morning and a few minutes in the evening pretty much every day, during which time he does appear to stare off at the walls as though he can see things, I presume his little kitty ears can hear things going on outside or in the pipes or something that we can't hear.

Is it around mealtime lol, you should hear the racket Hector makes when he thinks he should be fed (anytime you go into the kitchen really!!).
My friends think it's so funny as I always tell him big hand on the 12 little hand on 4 or 9 dependant on the time, try again in x hours!!!
I am trying to teach him to tell the time lol!!!!

Paris is our first Maine Coon...are they known for being quite vocal?
Trouble, our black cat, never meowed other than when he was having a bath or growling at dogs when I took him to the Vet.
So, I take it that it is normal for Paris to go around the house talking? And when I give her a treat, she repeats what sounds like, "OK" over and over.
Cats are very interesting, I don't know why I thought cats were cats and all the same. I know different dog breds have their own personalities...I'm learning.

I suppose he could be looking for someone else, but this is quite a recent thing. He was vocal for the first week but then settled in and this issues has only started in the past week. He usually starts at about 6PM and goes 'crazy' chasing the imaginary bugs on the walls and calling out until about 9PM and then starts up at 4/5AM and goes for A half hour, we've tried spritzing him with a water bottle in hopes to teach him this is not a good trait but my boyfriend usually ends up waking up and laying with him for a half hour until he calms down and finds his way to his bed. The food is always kept out in our house and the doors are open to all but the guest room (due to excessive shedding).
The other two seem to look at him likes he's crazy when he is doing this. His brother occasionally calls out but stops once he finds his little sister.

Two of mine {the brothers}always have a mad half hour, they normally spark off at about 9pm & treat the house like a race track & the furniture turns into obstacles to jump over as high as you can & one of them is talking as loud as he can the whole while,we just pick up any drinks or eats that are laying about & let them get on with it,if you talk to them while it is going on Wellie just talks back louder & seems to fire off even more.Think it is partly MC behaviour but if you think it is more of an upset than fun thing might be worth trying him on something like Zylkene for a while to see if he will settle,it is herbal & does seem to be pretty effective on emotional problems, also the fact that he has got a response from your boyfriend may not be helping, nothing like a bit of human company when I want it so will try that trick out again, these cats are too intelligent for both their & our own good sometimes...x

Oh right, Paris does do "runs" at times, usually about 9pm also....almost like she is getting ready to hunt or burning off extra energy. I always thought that cats didn't sleep that much at night...but she seems to settle down and go to bed about when we do. They sure can run fast...amazingly fast.
One morning she did "runs" on the bed at us, it was the weekend and during the week we get up at 5:30am and this was maybe 6:30am and she would run in and up on the bed and over and out of the room, she repeated this like 4 times...we got up..she took a nap. Amazing.

My MCs are anything but vocal. I have heard and read that the breed like to express themselves. My brother and sister MCs are all but vocal. Is this normal?

I'm sure they're fine as all cats express themselves differently. My 1st 2 moggies never meowed. Our half MC was very vocal and extremely loud. He would meow if he was looking for us and he would shout at us to make a space for him between us on the sofa. Our purebred MC coos when he wants canned food and cackles when we tell him "no". The only time we heard him meow was when we were leaving for the day and we stood outside the front door; we could hear him meowing.
