Shelly: I remember years ago my Mum leaving a chicken on the kitchen table to defrost. Sometime later we heard a sound in the kitchen and we discovered that our moggie had come in the back door, jumped up on the kitchen table and was happily, milling throught the raw chicken

The virus that pork meat might contain is not dangerous for people.
Besides, it's not that all pork meat will carry the virus; there's a chance that it does, so it's safer not to give pork to your cat in order not to take any unnecessary risks.
And about being shocked when hearing about giving raw meat to cats... It might seem odd at first, but it's not that weird when you come to think of the fact that the original natural diet of cats has always been raw meat. Cats who go outdoors, will catch birds and mice and eat them raw as well.

I love pork... especially a pork roast with crackle... yum yum!
But we don't have rabies here in australia so I guess i'm pretty safe, though I wouldn't give it to the cat.
