It would be interesting to hear a breeders take on your question.

I also paid quite a bit for my Maine Coon. I didn't pay under or over the usual price but felt it was well worth the price
For that I got my full pedigree certificate ,application for transfer of ownership cert from the GCCFI. He was vaccinated and I was also given worming liquid and flea treatment on leaving his old home.
I also had to sign a contract which included him being put on the "inactive register"

It may have been an accidental pregnancy but surely this does not affect the pedigree unless the breeder is unsure of who sired the kittens. Perhaps a breeder maybe able to answer this question?

    Hi Shelly

I have to agree with Dee and Tomiam on this one. I know you do not intend to show or breed your cat, but the fact is that you are paying for a certified pedigree, and if it was me I would expect certification whether the pregnancy is planned or not.

We paid £350 for Hank and that included: GCCF certification (5th Generation Pedigree), he has been Tricat vaccinated 2x, dewormed and has 4 weeks PetPlan insurance. So to be honest we feel that we had our 'moneys worth', and I assume this is the normal procedure when buying a pedigree cat.

But obviously this is just my view and but would love to hear other breeders opinions about this

Apart from the facts that have already been described, I would like to ask another question... since the pregnancy wasn't planned, I guess the parents to be weren't previously tested for HCM and PKD? Personally, I wouldn't want a kitten from a litter of which the parents aren't tested, but that is of course for everyone to decide for themselves... The price you pay for a kitten, is usually also partly based on the medical tests that have been done to make sure that the future parents are as healthy as possible. It cannot guarantee that the kitten will never be ill of course, but it is something I think is important.

    hiya
irish kitty exactly my point i was thinking that as my friend brought it to my attention about paperwork otherwise i wouldn have been to bothered as im firm to the point shes def a maine coon lol, she will come vaccinated and microchipped wormed and flea treatments, mother is tica reg and dad is gccf and i just dont think she has changed the mother from tica over to gccf so she cant register the kittens with gccf i think?
im payng 400 for her not something i can treat myself to everyweek and i got a few square looks from people when i told them, this is this dams first litter but she has had other litters with her other female MC and provided gccf for those as dam and sire was both gccf there only is one sire in the house so im sure she knows lol,
you see when buying any other pet understandably with papers i appreciate breeders go through alot of hard work for their kittens and planning and what not as this will be my very first perigree , was just a though really ive seen documents and asked questions alot and i will again before i get her,

thanks so much for replys, i dont know if they have been tested for those but i will be asking when i go back up x

DeeShell: We paid €600 for our M.C. Some of my work mates were horrified at the price so I had to down load the best image of a Maine Coon I could find to show them what they were missing Now there are people coming up and asking to see the photo of the breed.

Personally myself I would be reluctant to take a pedigree kitten without the paperwork.
I know kitten my was tested for certain diseases and was negative. I've forgotton what they are at this stage.
Also got a Royal Canin discount booklet and the owner also gifted Winston a lovely "cat sleeping bag" when he was leaving his old home.

Haha! I know what you mean Dee, we daren't tell our family how much we paid for Hank and they daren't ask!

I remember when Hank first came home and he was hiding behind the wash basket for hours, Dave just said "Ive just spent £500 on you this week and Im not having you hiding behind there all day!!!" Lol. So good job he warmed to us after a while!

I remember the day I rescued a moggie cat, shut her in the kitchen and let her get used to surroundings, lost sight of her and could not find her anywhere!
Took me all day to find where she went,

into the back of the fridge where the compressor is

Shelly how long have you to go till you pick up your cat?

Trying to find a link for that cat sleeping bag. If I do I'll post it up.
