I haven't had to give worming pills but for other pills I've used Greenies Pill pockets with success in the beginning. Then went to putting the pills in canned food with success in the beginning too. Then used a pill cutter to cut the pill into fourths and mixed in the canned food, again with success in the beginning. Now I'm grinding the pills with a pestle and mixing them in the canned food. Haven't had a problem doing this as I only give him about 1 tablespoon of the canned stuff to make sure he eats. He'll leave food behind and not get all the medicine if I give him too much food. Good luck and I hope the worms are gone quickly.

If you really don't want to admit to defeat {& most of us have at some point you don't argue with a big cat....} there is a spot on now that you apply to the back of the neck, more expensive of course but not so if you are wasting tablets, the ones that I have had most success with though with all of mine are Milbemax, they are small & palatable big boys eat them as treats & the "fussys" don't notice them crushed in a small amount of tasty food.....x
Just another quick thought if you put anything like that in fridge overnight {still in the packaging}will help kill the smell of the product...!Last edited by jckkerrison; 16th April 2012 at 07:02 AM. Reason: Added to post

That is the simplest solution but in a multi cat household you have to make sure the cats aren't grooming each other for a few hours.
With mine, I wrap them snuggly in a towel, cradle them in my arm like a baby, pill in other hand I pop open their mouth, drop the pill to the back of the tongue and hold the muzzle shut until they swallow. Often I have to allow the mouth to slightly open again before they swallow otherwise they just lay there holding the pill in their mouth.
I had a pill popping syringe thing at one time but to be honest it was more of a pain in the ass to use than just dropping the pill from my fingers. My fingers don't go in their mouth at all.

We've used the spot on type on our coonies - seemed to make them itch for about 10mins then they were ok - job done! Our old moggie Jake had asthma all of his life and an over active thyroid for the last few years of his life. We used a pill gun every day and it was perfect! Over in seconds and no distress to Jake. I'm not sure if you can get the one we had any more though - it had a rubber end that gripped the pills. I think it would have been too fiddly without that

Yes, lol! That would be fun..not for the cats though : s ive never heard of Profender but will def look out for it. I know your right about being firm and im gonna give it a go....I managed with Saffi but I think wrapping him in a towel will help stop him squirming out of my arms. Thanks again for your help : )

All good suggestions except the one about the videos, haha!
I am pilling my ancient moggie twice a day with thyroid medication and it's over in seconds. I sit him on my lap with his back to me, tilt his head up and open his mouth with my left hand, then with my right hand pop the pill in as far back as possible. Then hold gob shut and stroke chin. Job done! Even so, the pill does still occasionally appear on the floor so I have to do it again. But this is how I've always dealt with pills and I'm pretty confident with it.
Until Monty. What a nightmare! Turns out he's my pilling nemesis. He is so wild. There is no way on this earth or in this universe that me, OH or anyone else is going to shove a pill down him. We even have a huge fight on our hands just applying Frontline spot-on. Thing is, he's a lovely natured well socialised cat, and it's not that he's traumatised by it. He's just one of those cats with his own agenda thank you very much, and he resents the imposition. It's a battle of wills and when he wins, he laughs at us.
