I wouldn't have changed the name of the adult we took on as it is the one thing that remains familiar in its change of circumstances,if you really can't stand it either try & change it to something that has the same sound to it or even double barrel your new choice along with it & gradually change over. At this point he is the important one bless him.
Is he used to being with children...? Make sure he has somewhere which is his respected escape bolt hole but also have plenty of nice toys that will encourage him to want to be out for a play & spend time with you. Don't let him get away with things because you feel sorry for him coming into a new home, make sure he learns your rules the same as you would a kitten.
I agree with pralinehalo about vaccines better to be safe than sorry, also if you want to take him out my boys got on a lot better with the mynwood jacket, made to measure & you also feel a lot more secure with them in it then some of the harnesses where you feel they could slip out.
Hopefully he is going to come home with you & settle in as if he has always been there, make him feel loved & secure & I am sure he will but I am also sure that if he chucks out any problems someone on here will have had to cope with it,looking forward to photos of him in his new home....x
