Kitten food is really very high caloried for the quick growth that babes have to cope with & no way would I have left a babe on that for so long so could it be that when you went onto the adult food he lost "baby weight" & hit a more natural one as how you are describing him he sounds like an "overweight" animal, they look all front & no back,if you are happy that he is healthy then I would start getting him back onto adult food gradually & hopefully get his natural shape back & let him grow at his own speed or if any way worried pop him along to the vets for a check up & they will be able to confirm wether he is overweight through feeding or has a problem {which he shouldn't at this age bless him}.
