Neevie does the same too - I assumed it had to do with the fact she was raised with wolves.... she definitely is not at her most ladylike self when she eats, that's for sure.
we have a big breakfast tray for her food, to avoid "first splash" - we used to also have plastic place mats around but she would drag the food outside of the area! it's like it would be impolite to leave food in the bowl... food HAS to be eaten on the floor!
NOTE: I once gave her one of our plates to finish up - flat plate, with boiled chicken.... she didn't drag food out of there. So I wonder if it has to do with the bowls' edges tickling their whiskers or something?
on the other hand, if I try to feed her by hand, treats or whatever, it has to touch the floor before it gets eaten. And I swear I do not tickle her whiskers on purpose when I do that. Apparently it's just the rule.
