Hi & Welcome....... MC's are classed as semi long haired cats not long so they haven't got the coats such as persians etc in fact some of the MC's are so silky that you hardly have to groom them at all although it is a brilliant way to bond with your cat & you do need to start as soon as you get them just in case you have one where grooming is a necessity....also clip nails from the start, saves the furniture, saves you getting play scratched & once again gets them used to things from the start....... make sure they have plenty of toys to stimulate them & also scratching posts round & about,MC's especially soon learn no's & will also learn to sheath their claws, can't say there will be no furniture damage,we had none with our first MC's but three of them have made up for it since,it's not that they go up & use it as a scratching post but hurling round the room at a rapid pace of knots & using the settee as a springboard does bring a few marks along with it......
I am one who doesn't like the furminator, yep it hikes out a loat of the undercoat but that is there for a reason & when it grows back in it is really spikey, I used it once on our older cat who had a thick base coat but once I felt how it grew back it got chucked, regular combing when they have a moult will bring it out or if you are unlucky & get one which has a very very thick coat you can get a good thinning comb which leaves the coat feeling a lot more natural. I am no good at posting threads linked to some of the grooming kit you can get but will ask another one of the members if she will do it....
As for getting both babes together I would have a word with your MC breeder to see what she advices,I am surprised that the rescue babe won't have had anything as a lot of the rescue centres like to make sure their cats go out having been given the best start they can but if you are paying good money out for the MC babe you want to make sure you are not putting it at risk, breeders normally keep the babes for a week after their second injs which means the babe would be getting very close to being fully covered but if you are having babe staright away wouldn't like to say babe will be fully safe...... still go by what she says, agree it would be great for them to come home together but not at any health cost to one or the other of them.......
Looking forward to seeing photos of them....x
